Madamoiselle: Sweeney Todd

Frustrated!!

I was excited when I saw in the papers that "Meet the Spartans" movie was shown in the cinema today for its sneak preview. When we got there, we were let down when they said that the movie was BANNED!! I am not sure for what reason but it was a real big bummer! I needed a laugh today but was disappointed with the banned thingy. I guess, the movie was not funny at all.Probably!

Despite of the need to laugh, I went ahead for "Sweeney Todd- The demon Barber of Fleet Street", a throat slashing story of love, lies, revenge, blood-splurting and meat pies. The surprising bit, it's a musical movie, lots of singing from start to end, horror and love type musical and I find it very unique. Johnny Depp looks almost the same as he was in "Edward Scissorhand" but without the cute pouting lips and scissors..hehehe.. The story had a tragic end, and I think I like it eventhough it felt tiring to watch it in 2 hrs straight with singing all the way. The songs was great, love the songs but it was like..thee whoooooole waaaaay of 2hrs singing...feels like being swayed to tiredness...sleep..hehehe..hey it's a musical movie I should have known. Still,I like this movie and I'd rated it 7 out of 10.

Synopsis:

Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp), a man unjustly sent to prison, vows revenge not only for the cruel punishment but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, he becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who slits the throats of his customers and use their bodies to be made into meat pies by his amorous accomplice, Mrs Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter). Alan Rickman plays the evil Judge Turpin who sent him unfairly to prison, withe Timothy Spall is the Judge's wicked associate Beadle Bamford. Sacha Baron Cohen is a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli, and Christopher Lee takes on the role of the gentleman ghost.
